I am a fully registered Otago trained Specialist Oral Surgeon. I have been a director and Oral Surgeon at NSOMS since 2015. Before starting on the North Shore I practiced for 5 years in Hawkes Bay as an Oral Surgeon both in private practice and contracting for Hawkes Bay Hospital. Prior to this I practiced at Dunedin Public Hospital and the University of Otago.

I graduated from the University of Otago with a Clinical Doctorate in Oral Surgery after eight years of study and research.

During these roles I gained much experience in the management of oral diseases and disorders, the removal of wisdom teeth, dental implant surgery and associated procedures among other oral surgical procedures.

I am married and currently a father of one. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, fishing and relaxing at the beach.

I have a special interest in reducing pain and swelling after wisdom tooth removal through various techniques, along with dental implant treatment including single and multiple implants, Clip-OnDentures and Implant supported full fixed dental replacement including All-On-4.

I consult and operate in our rooms on Akoranga Drive as well as operating at North Harbour Southern Cross Hospital.

I am a specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, a title that can be obtained after completing a dental degree, medical degree, and an extensive surgical training. This makes me a qualified dentist and medical doctor who is best suited to perform surgical procedures in the mouth.

I grew up in North Shore before moving down to Dunedin for my training at University of Otago and Dunedin Public Hospital. After spending more than 10 years in Dunedin, I now feel very privileged to return to North Shore to look after patients from my home town.

My clinical focus is in wisdom teeth extraction and simple to advanced implant treatment. I am a global leader and pioneer in the field of digital implantology, utilizing the most up-to-date technology such as intraoral scanning and photogrammetry. I am the only clinician in the country who can provide a full digital work flow to full arch implant rehabilitation (all-on-4 and zygoma implants).

Besides my clinical work, I also teach other dentists and specialists both nationally and internationally. I am a respected speaker for NobelBiocare (a world leading implant manufacturer) and 3 Shape (a world leading manufacturer for digital dentistry). I run courses to teach clinicians in basic implantology as well as advanced implantology such as bone grafting, All-on-4 treatment and zygoma implants.

I live in North Shore with my lovely wife Jae and two kids - Mark (9-year-old) and Hazel (6-year-old). We all love to play tennis and ski as a family. I am also a keen golfer which refreshes me mentally and keeps me fit.

Being the specialist prosthodontist at NorthShore Oral and Maxillofacial and Oral Surgeons with almost 40 years’ experience across private practice, university teaching and senior management, I work alongside Drs Han Choi and Sam Goldsmith rehabilitating patients with implants and changing their quality of life and self-esteem. My focus with these world-class surgeons is both cosmetic makeovers in younger adults missing a few teeth and All-on-Four and Zygoma approaches on older adults missing all their teeth using fixed implant bridges. I enjoy the digital procedures we use making patients treatment easier and more comfortable for implant crowns or bridges.

Having worked in implantology since the 1980’s, I have experienced the evolution of treatment options for patients with missing teeth from multiple historical analogue approaches to a state-of-the-art full digital workflow. In addition, I also see patients needing complex crown and bridgework from tooth wear and those needing bite splints for temporomandibular disorders. I lecture by invitation internationally and serve as a reviewer and member of editorial boards for numerous peer-reviewed journals in prosthodontics and implantology. Also being an author of several Cochrane Collaboration reviews on implantology, I am also known for my expertise in implant overdentures.
